Canadian adults take over 2,000 car trips every year that are three kilometers or shorter. Leaving the car keys at home and pulling out the walking shoes or bike helmet can save you gas money, reduce your emissions by up to 250 kg of CO2 / year, and help you become more physically active. It only takes ½ hour of exercise a day to lower your risk of illness, reduce anxiety, and feel more energetic. It may even save you time! Some studies show that for distances under 5 km, biking is the fastest form of travel in a city.
Take a look at Fredericton's trails/bikeways map to see how you can start using your car a little less and enjoy some great scenery! We're also increasing our bus fleet and adding more bike racks to buses and municipal spaces.
